November 17, 2018 - Ronnie Johnson Wins the Battle; Ryan Knight Wins the War

We returned to Blue Ridge Motorsports Park for the final race of the season. We had three guys within 14 points eligible to claim the series title. Ryan Knight, Matthew Knight and Colten Jackson would go into this event merely separated by 14 points.

The night would see 24 drivers sign in for the event. Brian Jackson would make his first start with us and let us know he was there by setting fast time and claiming the ARBodies and Rusty Oaks Kennels fast time award.  Ronnie Johnson, Colten Jackson, Jeff Robinson, Daniel Brewer and Brad Thomas would be your top 6 qualifiers locked into the #FATBOYRACING Dash for Cash. Everyone else would go to heats.

Heat 1 would have Justin Winters and Jacob Paris on the front row.  The point leader, Ryan Knight would break an axel during the heat race and would have to go to the tail of the field for the feature.  Justin Winters would go on to win the heat and earn the 7th place starting position for the feature.

Heat 2 would see a pair of first time series racers on the front row with John Howard and Drew Larson. John Howard would also lead flag to flag and pick up the heat win and earn the 8th place starting spot for the feature. Matthew Knight would finish 3rd in the heat and would have to hustle in the feature to maintain his 2nd place standings in the points.

Feature time would see a caution on the first lap as Drew arson would stall in turn 3 and 4 causing a several car pileup. The second start would go green with Ronnie Johnson jumping out to the lead with Brian Jackson, Jeff Robinson and Colten Jackson Following close behind. The Caution would again come out for Brad Thomas spinning in turn 3 and 4. Again several cars would be involved including the first and second place in points.  Matthew knight would suffer heavy cosmetic damage but was able to continue. Ryan Knight would not receive any damage and also would continue. Unfortunatly Brian Womack, Jacob Paris and Drew Larson would be forced to retire from the event. Brian Jackson would suffer a left rear flat during this caution and would have to go to the tail of the field.  When the field went back green we would see another 2 laps of green flag racing until Dalton Hood would spin coming off of turn 4 and bringing out the caution. Matthew Knight and Ryan Knight have raced their way into the top 10 while Colten Jackson was running a strong second/third place as him and Jeff Robinson where racing side by side. Brian Jackson also had raced his way back to the 11th spot.

The field would go green again and we would see Colten and Jeff rage war on each other, while Matthew, Ryan and Brian Jackson raged war on each other trying to get back to the top 5. Brian would spin in turn 2 after making contact with the Knight Brothers as they were trading paint coming off of the corner. This would end Brian’s night. The field would race back to green for a few more laps until Jeff Robinson would fold the nose under on his racecar in turn 3 and 4 ending his night.  Ronnie Johnson would again lead the field back to the green with Colten Jackson directly behind him stalking him for the remaining laps. Colten would never get more then 2 car link away from Johnson and some laps be right on his bumper. However Colten could not get enough momentum to get up beside Ronnie and challenge for the lead. Ronnie Johnson would win the Blue Collar 40 with Colten Jackson, Justin Winters, John Howard and Daniel Brewer would round out the top five.

The point standings would come down to who finished where. Ryan Knight would claim the first Red Clay Series title as he rallied from the tail of the field and finished seventh in the feature, claiming the TruForm Hard charger award and  beating out Colten Jackson by 4 points. Despite a strong run with a second place finish in the feature. He would advance one spot in the standing with his efforts passing Matthew Knight for second in the final standings by 4 points as well. Mathew knight who came home in the Knowles Race Parts 6th place in the feature would settle for third in the final point standings.
